  2. COMPARISON OF SUPERIORITY • 1. We add –er to one syllable adjectives paying attention to spelling. • short – shorter than • big – bigger than • nice – nicer than • 2. We also add –er to two syllable adjectives ending in –y • Happy – happierthan !! spelling

  3. Adjective with more than one syllable and not ending in –y use the following structure: • More curious than • More beautiful than • We use comparison to compare two objects

  4. IRREGULAR COMPARATIVES • GOOD – BETTER THAN • BAD – WORSE THAN • FAR – FARTHER OR FURTHER THAN

  5. COMPARISON OF EQUALITY • We use the adjective in a positive grade and the following structure • She is as intelligent as her sister. • He is not as tall as his cousin. • Both objects that we compare have the same quality.

  6. COMPARISON OF INFERIORITY • We use the adjective in a positive grade and the following structure : • This house is less large than the other one. • The dog is less heavy than the bull. • We use this comparison to indicate that one object has an inferior condition.

  7. SUPERLATIVE OF SUPERIORITY • We add –est to one syllable adjectives and two syllable adjectives ending in –y : • Hot – the hottest • Clean – the cleanest • Tidy – the tidiest • The rest of adjectives use the following structure • She is the most enthusiastic student in the group.

  8. We use superlative adjectives in order to comprare one object within a group or category. • Spain is one of the largest countries in Europe. • IRREGULAR SUPERLATIVES • GOOD – THE BEST • BAD – THE WORST • FAR – THE FURTHEST OR THE FARTHEST.

  9. SUPERLATIVE OF INFERIORITY • We use the following structure with adjectives in positive grade in order to compare one object within a group indicating a negative quality. • He is the least helpful person in the school. • They are the least fast animals in the jungle.
