The adjectives fat, fatter and fattest are called the positive, comparative and superlative respectively. • For most adjectives of one syllable and some two-syllable adjectives –eris added to for comparatives and –est is added to form superlatives. Example : big bigger biggest small smaller smallest
For adjectives of two or more syllables, the comparative is formed by adding more / less before the adjective, and the superlative is formed by adding most / least before the adjective. • Several adjectives have irregular comparatives and superlatives and follow a different pattern.
