  1. Jamie Lombardi (Vassar College) 2004 Undergraduate Summer Research Institute projects: Rich Bi ’06: Smoothed Particle Magnetohydrodynamics Developed a working 1D code (with 3D fields) Fully 3D code is under development Plan to study distribution and effects of magnetic fields in stellar collisions Matt Rosenfeld ’07: TYCHO Stellar Evolution Developed good models for population II stars, to be used to initiate SPH collision simulations with and without magnetic fields Enhanced a web interface to TYCHO, so anyone can generate stellar models simply Zach Proulx ’07: Collisions with Red Giants Enhanced SPH code to allow for point mass red giant core Performed set of red giant + main sequence collisions, varying the relative velocity and impact parameter Both the red giant envelope and main sequence star are modeled with an SPH fluid Our collision products can be stellar evolved and compared to observed stellar exotica
