The Mission of the Howard County Public School System is to ensure excellence in teaching and learning so that each student will participate responsibly in a diverse and changing world. Goal 1 – Each child regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, disability or socioeconomic status, will meet the rigorous performance standards that have been established. All diploma-bound students will perform on or above grade level in all measured content areas. Standards and Assessment • Kindergarten teachers are teaching HCPSS Common Core Mathematics Curriculum • ALL other teachers are teaching HCPSS Essential Curriculum and infusing • writing standards • lessons that encourage students to demonstrate Standards for Mathematical Practices
Standards and Assessment • Curriculum staff is doing work that will lead to HCPSS Common Core Curriculum • New curriculum will be phased in over time • Many teachers will have some revised materials in August 2012
Standards and Assessment • New assessments are being developed by PARCC • They will be piloted in 2012-2013, field tested in 2013-2014, fully implemented in 2014-2015 • PARCC has released content frameworks http://www.parcconline.org/parcc-content-frameworks that group standards for instruction and assessment
