Clinical Documentation in Medical Teaching Units (MTU) • OP-037 Informing Supervisory Practice: The Influence of Case Review and Documentation Practices on CTU Patient Care. Mark Goldszmidt, Lorelei Lingard et al. • Team communication practices on the MTU play a significant role in guiding care. Three types of fragmentation: case conceptualization, communication and continuity. • What is the impact of this fragmentation on clinical documentation and discharge summary? • Next Steps: Skills training for online discharge summary
Next Steps: AFMC/Infoway • $200,000 project to identify “the medical informatics curriculum, related pedagogical resources, and core competencies addressing electronic health records” • http://chec-cesc.afmc.ca/community/afmc-infoway-physician-in-training-e-health-curriculum-e-learning • Educational intervention and skills training needed • P-072 (2010)Friend or Foe? An Educational Intervention Addressing the Barriers to Patient-Physician Communication Resulting from the use of IT. ArunRadhakrishnan, Jacqueline James, Katherine MacRury, Mary Anne Cooper, University of Toronto • Department of Medicine willing to sponsor Online Discharge Summary pilot project for CDHA MTU
Uof T Faculty of Medicine’s TELUShosted technology event • Keynote speaker (Dr. Larry Afrin, MUSC) and knowledge at the point of care • New approach to learning is semantically loaded digital publishing—in the workplace • Next Steps: clinical automation between distributed teaching sites has been benchmarked. • Saint John NB has a stage 4 rank, whereas Capital Health, NS has a stage 3 rank, and elsewhere in NS 2.5 rank. In NB, medical students use Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) but do not get that exposure anywhere in NS.
