All About Scientology By Zackary Collevechio
Beginnings • Scientology was created in 1952 by L. Ron Hubbard • He worked on Scientology and Dianetics for nearly 25 years before starting the first church • Has more than 5,000 writings and 3,000 recorded lectures
About Scientology • It is the only major religious movement of the 20th century • It is the most rapidly spreading religions in the world • Over 12,000 churches in over 164 countries • One main God, Xenu
Creation Myth • In Scientology there is no specific myth about creation. However, their belief is that 75,000,000 years ago a galactic overlord named Xenu headed to Earth with a spaceship of 75 billion people. He lined them up next to volcanoes and killed them with H-bombs. However, some survived and repopulated the planet. Xenu is still believed to live amongst us today in a physical body. Only those memebers who pay are allowed to know more.
Xenu • Dictator of the Galactic Confederacy • Brought billions of humans to Earth • Considered a sacred teaching • Only revealed to large contributors of money • Still around us in spiritual form today
Main Beliefs • There are three prime fundamentals of Scientology: Man is an immortal spiritual being. His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime. His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized.
Beliefs Continued… • Scientology isn’t about believing in something abstract • It is used more for practical problems, like trying to stop a baby from crying, or confronting a co-worker • Even though the beliefs come from science, it is not always to be taken literally • Some people strongly believe in this, while others say it is a cult that fraudulently charges customers for spiritual services • They believe that in order to learn more about the religion, they must pay large amounts of money and ‘rank up’ • In the ranking system, we are called “thetans”
Destruction Myth • Scientology does not have an actual destruction myth • Nothing is ever mentioned about how the world is going to end • They only have rules about auditing and cleansing so they can unlock more information about their own religion
Other Myths • Again, Scientology’s only real myth is the creation myth • There are no other writings or teachings about what happens after Xenu brings us to Earth • Everything else is open to interpretation • Scientology as a whole is trying to help people get through everyday tasks by scientifically analyzing simple things
