  1. Turning Points: John Nakar Michael Carlino

  2. Chapter 15:21-28 “The Canaanite Woman’s Faith” -From Just the Jews to Everyone…

  3. -Before the encounter he was only the messiah for the Jews. -He came upon a woman who was a Greek and Syrophoenicianpleading for help for her daughter who was possessed by a demon.

  4. -Jesus refused to help her daughter due to her not being a Jew. But the woman came and did him homage, saying, “Lord, help me.” He said in reply, “It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.” (Matthew 15:25-26)

  5. -She then replied to him making him see that the Jews are higher than the Canaanites but they should still be helped She said, “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters.” (Chapter 15:27) -This marks the point where he tries not only to heal and save the Jews but others aswell.

  6. Chapter 16:13-20 “Peter’s Confession about Jesus.” -Peter, Satan with good intentions Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”Then he strictly ordered his disciples to tell no one that he was the Messiah.  From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised. (Chapter 16:16-21)

  7. -Peter aggravates Jesus Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, “God forbid, Lord! No such thing shall ever happen to you.” (Chapter 16:22) -The rest of the story later on Peter is seen as trying to deny Jesus his fate which angers him greater.

  8. -Peter tries to prevent what is suppose to happen which causes Jesus to call him Satan  He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.” (Chapter 16:23)

  9. -The story takes a darker tone from this point onward. The story starts the events leading to the passion…
