Why were the convicts sent to new Holland? The convicts were sent to New Holland because there was no more room for them in jail. Sending them to New Holland also gave many the opportunity to work for other upper-class men and women as servants, farmers, builders etc. This way they could live life in a more human way. Things almost seem as though they are more affordable to any convict.
Describe Life on Board 14th March 1787 Waking up to a horrible back pain and the most horrific smell isn’t exactly how I would have pictured it. But at least I knew there was one less day from many before arriving at Botany Bay. I was arrested because well… to make a long story short I was accused for stealing a dress worth 74 shillings. What would I be able to do with a suit after all I’m only 11 years old. Anyway moving on. During a certain time of the week, all of the other convicts and I were taken upstairs to the deck. The captain yelled at us and told us that we had to strip down. I didn't hesitate as you would have been severely punished if you didn’t act quick enough. We all got a rinse and our hair was cut short. The crewmen gave us a set of clean overalls and boots to put on. A ball and chain seemed compulsory and boy, did they hurt your ankles. It wasn’t long until we had to go back into the deep, dark, smelly, under bit of the boat. Most of the convicts got sea sick and spewed all over the place and the toilet is a non secured bucket, so you can imagine how that ended up. I pray for the day to come so that I can leave this hunk of junk behind and hopefully start a new page in my life as a servant for a wealthy family.
