Objective • By the end of this lesson, you will be able to graph ordered pairs and find the lengths of line segments on a coordinate grid. • Standard 4MG2.2 - Students will understand that the length of a horizontal line segment equals the difference of the x-coordinates. • Standard 4MG2.3 - Students will understand that the length of a horizontal line segment equals the difference of the y-coordinates.
Introduce • On your desk you have a coordinate grid. Watching me, let’s place a star on the grid? • What ordered pair names the location of the star? • (3, 5) • Place a dot at (6, 5) • Move from point (3, 5) to (6, 5). How did you get there? • Place a dot at (6, 2) • Move from (6, 5) to (6, 2). How did you get there?
