Our Stand • S&T certainly has its pros and cons. • Advancement of S&T must undergo ethics and control, or S&T could result in the ultimate destruction of: • Humanity • Earth and Nature • Itself
The What's and How’s • What is science and technology? • What kind of power does science and technology wield? • What is the definition of power? • What are the reasons that science and technology wields power? • In what ways could science and technology help humanity? • How else could it bring humanity down? • Does Man create things that control him?
Reasons • We can’t do without them. • Gain advantage in life. • Addresses our inconvenience. • Answers our questions in life. • Increases productivity and standard of living. • People cannot live without technology.
Reasons • Science is everywhere. • In every corner of the world. • Literally surrounded by science. • Never-ending possibility of new discoveries.
Reasons • Technology is versatile. • Can always be created, recreated and modified to suit our ever-growing daily needs. • Is never stagnant in development (ever-changing).
Assumptions • S&T has more benefits than harm if controlled. • S&T will continuously advance without any chance of stopping or reverting. • Just as far as we progress in technology, the more we regress ourselves, thus the more we are reliant and dependent on technology.
Truth and Evidence • Science is everywhere: tons of variety in types of sciences. • An existent belief: The Singularity Movement. • Computing power is increasing exponentially. • People can use tech for video conferencing (FaceTime, Skype). • Evolution of Mobile Phones
Counter-Examples • Ethics • Chemical warfare (ethics and justification) • Medical Sciences: Stem cells, various therapies used to cure diseases. • Plastic Surgery and Gender-change • Abortion • Speculations on strength of Google’s worldwide information network (Privacy issues) • Internet Pornography (Justification on child porn)
