  2. Stemplots To make a stemplot: (stem and leaf) • Separate each piece of data into a stem and a leaf. (Each leaf should only be one digit.) • List the stems vertically • Draw a vertical line to the right of the stems • List the leaves in order to the right.

  3. 75, 34, 80, 95, 62, 75, 98, 93, 84, 87, 94, 85, 70, 39, 84, 78, 98, 78, 90, 68, 75, 82, 76, 85 To make a stemplot: (stem and leaf) Separate each piece of data into a stem and a leaf. 4. Stemplots Purpose/Use of Stemplots: • Used for SMALL data sets • Used if you want to SEE the raw data • Ultimately used to show distribution of data

  6. Dot Plots To make a Dot Plot: (Line Plot) • Draw a number line that contains all values in your data list • Place a dot above each number each time it appears in the data list. • Number of dots must equal number of items in the data list.

  7. 4, 2, 5, 2, 6, 2, 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 4, 5, 6, 4, 5, 2, 5, 5, 2, 1 To make a Dot Plot: (Line Plot) Draw a number line that contains all values in your data list Place a dot about each number each time it appears in the data list. Number of dots must equal number of items in the data list. 1 2 3 4 5 6 Dot Plots

  8. Dot Plots Purpose/Use for Dot Plots: • Used for SMALL data sets • Used to show raw data • Ultimately used to show the frequency of data

  9. Stem plot shows the distribution of data using actual numerical values • Dot plot show the distribution of data by showing its frequency • The advantages of using stem and dot plots include easy viewing of max and min. Also, the clusters of data or gaps in data are easily seen.
