Located in the northwest part of Georgia. Appalachian Plateau The Appalachian Plateau region has flat highland and mountains.
The temperatures are lower in the northern region than in the southern region. Why? People build vacation homes here to get away during the hot summer months.
Valley and Ridge Located in north Georgia next to the Appalachian Plateau. A ridge is a strip of high land. Most ridges are rocky and covered with forests.
The soil is good for farming. Farmers in this region grow fruit, such as apples.
Blue Ridge Mountains These mountains are in the northeast part of Georgia. Georgia’s highest mountains and some of the state’s rivers begin in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Piedmont The land is mostly hilly with forests. Wood from the trees is used to make boxes, barrels, and other things.
Most people in Georgia live in the Piedmont. Ten of the state’s largest cities are in this region.
Coastal Plain The land is mostly flat. This is the largest region in Georgia. The sandy soil allows pine and oak trees to grow.
Some crops farmers grow are pecans, peanuts, cotton, and peaches in the Coastal Plain.
