2. Prom & Graduation Dates • Prom – June 12th • Grad Breakfast and rehearsal – June 26th beginning at 9am • Graduation ceremony – June 26th – 7pm at the Eastern Shore Community Center (The rink) • Ice cream social and grad t-shirt signing will take place in June – date to TBA

3. Prom & Safe Grad Costs • Decorations - $1500 • DJ - $800 • Prom food - $900 • Invitations - $200 • Fireworks - $1725 • Zatzman Sportsplex - $1300 • Buses - $2400 • Hypnotist - $1265 • Safe grad food - $ 1400 • Prizes - $700 • Games and inflatables - $1000 • Security costs will be covered by the school Total Costs – $13190/124 grads = $105 per ticket – The student support grant will cover the cost of the decorations and DJ, this will reduce the base ticket price to $95 per student

4. Prom & Safe Grad Fundraisers • The school will run two lobster ticket draws – one in November and one in April • Individual prom ticket costs for the student and their guest will be reduced by the value of tickets sold. • For the November tickets students will be able to sell $80 worth (these are limited as we will not know the final prom ticket cost until April) • If there are a number of parents/guardians who would like to form a fundraising committee to hold additional events such as the casino night or grad auction, we can help with this process. • Anyone who is interested in volunteering for a fundraising committee, please sign up with your name and email address.

5. Graduation Costs •  Invites - $350 – not needed to get in just a keepsake • Grad shirts - $1100 – student designed • Ice Cream Social - $270 • Grad Breakfast - $850 • Grad program - $575 • Grad Gowns - $3500 • Rink Rental - $450 • Ceremony misc. - $800 – piper, sound system, engraving etc • Total - $7895/124 = $65 per student – student support grant will be used to subsidize the cost of the fees by $10 per student • Grad fees will be $55 and will be collected in March-April

Graduation Requirements • 1 Canadian History content course • Fine Arts credit • Global His 12/Geo 12 • 5 Grade 12 credits • *9 Immersion Credits (for Immersion Program) • No more than 7 grade 10 and at least 5 grade 12. You are responsible to make sure you have the following compulsory credits for graduation: Students must have a minimum of 18 credits • 3 English • 3 Math • 2 Science • 1 Technology • 1 Physical Education Credit

11. Post Secondary Expo • Will be held on Monday, September 30th • Reps from about 50+ post-secondary institutions. • Evening Sessions will be held at Prince Andrew (Oct 2nd ) and Citadel High (Oct 3rd) • Updated materials available in Guidance Office.

12. How to choose an Institution? • Attend the post-secondary expo • Get your feet on campus • Attend school presentations • Attend Open Houses • Talk to students who currently attend • Assess scholarship offers • Go with your gut… follow your instinct… ….what place feels like the right fit…

13. Application Process • Application for Atlantic universities and colleges usually begin in Feb. Students can apply earlier if marks permit. • ***NSCC apply now *** • Ontario universities require earlier applications. Deadlines vary with universities…some in December/January

14. Admission Information • Most institutions require a fee to process applications i.e. $45 + • Most prefer an on-line version for faster processing • For those students interested in residence, a separate application is required . • Students must put in their ten digit provincial student number on the application • Students must check to see that they meet the admission requirements and deadlines of universities/colleges of interest. • Students will be assessed based on first semester marks and/or grade 11 marks for early admission (80-85%).

University Requirements: Halifax Typical requirements for several post-secondary programs (all courses are at the grade 12 level) • Bachelor of Arts – English plus 4 other academic courses • Bachelor of Science – English, Pre-Calculus, two Sciences (Chem, Bio, Physics) plus one other academic course

17. Nova Scotia Community College • 13 campuses across Nova Scotia • Over 140 program options • Programs suitable for all types of students • Articulation Agreements for many programs are in place. • Apply Now!

18. Private Career Colleges • A business that offers occupational training • Often have less stringent admission requirements but tuition maybe more expensive • Nova Scotia has over 40 registered private colleges

19. APPRENTICESHIP • On-the-job training • Graduate must find employer • 2000 hours = 1 year of training • Apprentices earn 40-90% of journeyperson while training • Only certain trades have apprenticeship options (60+) • For more information: • nsapprenticeship.ca/

20. Students with Disabilities • If your student has a disability: learning, developmental, psychiatric, attentional, physical, or sensory (anxiety, ADHD, depression, epilepsy…etc) they may qualify for grants and/or services at their post-secondary institution • Students should indicate on their applications and on student loan forms that they have a disability • Medical verification by a GP or specialist is usually required • Grants and services include: tutoring, note taking, assistive technology, computers, etc.

27. Prom Decorating committee • This is a student run committee • There will be opportunities to help out with the decorations – the setting up and taking down in particular • The committee will come up with a few themes that the grade 12 students will vote on.
