  1. GEOTHERMAL ENERGY By Beck Griswold, Taylor Helkowski, Michael Dowling, Lyndsey Miller

  2. FAST FACTS • Geothermal come from the Greek word geo which means “HEAT”. • The energy comes from the earth. • Geothermal energy is use to heat up houses • About 10,000 years ago, Paleo-Indians used hot springs in North America for cooking. • Hot springs are the original Geothermal energy source.

  3. HOW THIS ALL WORKS They pump cool water down in long tubes till the bottom of the tube reaches molten rock. Then the water comes up another tube as a steam and the energy is capture by a turbine. The turbine then turns a generator making electricity.

  4. PROS • Geothermal energy produces a lot of energy. • Geothermal energy doesn’t take up much room. • There is no fuel needed to run it. • Once the power station is built it is basically FREE energy.

  5. CONS • Geothermal energy plants a very expensive to build. • Geothermal energy plants are harder to operate than coal power plants.

  6. IS IT ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY? Yes, geothermal energy doesn’t cause any pollution, is made by the earth, can be recyclable, and it is unlimited. (as long as the sun exist)

  7. IS IT RENEWABLE • Yes, because the water is always available. Also the Earth with never lose its thermal energy.

  8. WILL THIS WORK IN PITTSBURGH • Yes, It does not take up too much space. • Pittsburgh should be able to dig very deep. Which could prove to be no problem.

  9. HOW WILL THIS DO IN THE FUTURE • This will always be plentiful because the Earth will never run out of water and the Earth will never lose its thermal energy.
