2. CMU Nursing Home • The Pittsburgh area experienced an earthquake, measuring 7.7 on the Richter. • Rescue teams are being sent into collapsed buildings to search for survivors. • CURF will be focusing its efforts on locating/delivering medicine to survivors trapped inside the CMU nursing home.

3. CMU Nursing Home Registry • CURF has compiled the following list of people confirmed to have been in the nursing home prior to the collapse. • The list remains incomplete as several visitors were believed to be in the home at the same time. • Additionally no information is available about the patient being treated in the disturbed ward.

5. Objectives • Teams have 10 minutes to search the wreckage. • Team earn points by locating, identifying, and/or delivering medicine. • Teams lose points by mistakenly locating, identifying, or delivering medicine. • A team’s score is the sum of their scores for all rooms in the world.

6. Locating Survivors • Teams will be provided with floor plans of the nursing home. • If a team locates a survivor, teams can mark the room in which the survivor was found in order to earn 10 points. (If multiple survivors are found in the same room then teams must mark the number of survivors in the room) • If the team mistakenly identifies the number of survivors in a room then they will incur a penalty of 10 points. • If no survivors are found in the room, teams can mark the room clear in order to earn 10 points. • If teams mistakenly identifies a room as clear, they will incur a penalty of 40 points. • Teams may leave rooms unmarked.

7. Identifying Survivors • Teams will be awarded 20 points for correctly identifying each survivor they locate. • If teams come across survivors not in the roster they may identify them as “unknown”. • Teams will lose 40 points for mistakenly identifying a “survivor” (This includes mistakenly identifying a survivor as “unknown”) • Teams are not required to identify survivors.

8. Delivering Medicine • All teams will have the capacity to deliver two medical kits to survivors they find. • Basic Kit – Can be delivered to any survivor, worth 10 points, -10 points if teams deliver to non-person. • Insulin Kit – Can only be delivered to patients that need insulin, worth 20 points if correct, -40 points if wrong. • Cardio Kit – Can only be delivered to patients that need cardio medicine, worth 20 points if correct, -40 points if wrong. • Respiratory Kit – Can only be delivered to the sole patient suffering respiratory problems, worth 30 point if correct, -60 points if wrong. • For the purpose of the lab teams must mark the survivor, room, and type of medical kit delivered on their floor plan. • Only one kit can be delivered to a survivor.

9. Room Multiplier • In the floor plan, the room multiplier is shown. • Your score for that room, if positive, will be multiplied by the room multiplier. • If your score is not positive we will not penalize your team further. • The more difficult the room (reaching it/exploring it) the higher the multiplier.

10. Scoring Conclusion • The following is an example of scoring for a room. • Correctly locates two survivors in room X: +10 • Correctly identifies one survivor as person Y: +20 • Incorrectly identifies the other as “unknown”: -40 • Correctly delivers respiratory kit to Y: +20 • Correctly delivers basic kit to other: +10 • Room score = 20 • Room multiplier = x2 • Room score = 40

11. Scoring Conclusion (continued) CURF puts a premium on accuracy, thus the penalties for making a mistake are usually twice the gain for being correct. There is an element of risk, teams must decide before going in which two kits they will bring in and mark it on their grading sheet. Given the time frame and size of the world, teams should plan a search pattern that: • In your estimation, within the operating capacity of your robot. • Visits rooms that challenge your robot – More difficult rooms have higher multipliers. 16. Closing Comments on World • This year’s world is much more complex than the checkpoint. • Teams should plan a search path through the world that maximizes the potential score while keeping in mind their capabilities. • Be aware we’ve provided the floor plan, not the map of the disaster – rooms may not be accessible, certain paths may not be destroyed. • For this year especially, teams are on the honor code not to inform other teams following them. Although we will swap people between runs, the point distribution throughout the world will remain unchanged.

17. Where to obtain online The grading sheet, floor plans, and roster are available off the grade sheet link that will activate later in the day. On the demo day please bring all three documents. Mark on the grading sheet which two kits you will be bringing. At the end of your 10 minutes turn, turn in the first two documents. Your sheets will be compared with the appropriate answer sheet and we will email your grade and if you’ve been selected as one of the three to compete in the finals. The last spot is a wild card and will be decided just before the finals begin.
