Objectives of the MS-R Program • Provide rigorous/challenging education to students with excellent academic record • Expose MS students to research: MS-R ideal for those who are not sure if they wish to pursue a Ph.D.
Requirements for Admission • No deficiencies (Except the English course) • Good academic record (similar to what is required for admission to Ph.D.) • GRE score of at least 1300 (V+Q) • GPA of 3.5 or higher • Strong letters of recommendations • Admission decided by MS-R committee • Admission to MS-R is not guaranteed even if you meet the minimum requirements • Number of seats limited
MS-R Degree Requirements • 5 Core courses: • Algorithms; S/W Arch.; ACN; S/W Engg; AOS • 2 core courses in 1st semester; 3 in the 2nd • One 7000 level special topics class • At least 6 hours of MS thesis • Other requirements for the general MS degree apply
Features: • MS-R sections for core classes are distinct from other MS sections. • Ph.D. thesis proposal can substitute for an MS thesis • Top 15 students will be eligible for a $1K scholarship (+ tuition @ in-state rate); • The scholarship will continue in the 2nd year provided satisfactory performance is maintained (GPA 3.5 or higher after 1st year) and Ph.D. qualifying exam requirements are satisfied.
MS-R Scholarships Requirement • MS-R students wishing to continue the scholarship should take the Ph.D. qualifying exam of their core courses and pass at least 3 of them in the first year. • Ph.D. qualifying exam for all 5 core courses are recommended to be taken in the 1st year. • Not meeting the requirement of passing the Ph.D. qualifying exam in 3 areas means that you will be ineligible for the scholarship in the 2nd year; you still continue in the MS-R program.
