Perimeter & Area. By Penny Stacy. Perimeter. Perimeter is the measure of the distance around a figure. To find the perimeter of a figure, add the lengths of the sides. To find the perimeter of a rectangle, use the following formula: Perimeter = (2 x length) + (2 x width) or P = 2l +2w.

Perimeter • Perimeter is the measure of the distance around a figure. To find the perimeter of a figure, add the lengths of the sides. • To find the perimeter of a rectangle, use the following formula: Perimeter = (2 x length) + (2 x width) or P = 2l +2w.
Ex. 1 • An outline of a wall in Tim’s bedroom is shown below. Tim wants to put a border on the wall. How much border does he need? 15 ft. 18 ft.
Perimeter of Regular Polygon • To find the perimeter of a regular polygon use the formula P = xs, where x represents the number of sides and s represents the length of each side. • For example, each side of a hexagon measures 7 centimeters. To find the perimeter, multiply 6 sides by 7 cm to get 42 centimeters.
What is the perimeter of this figure? 2cm 4cm 6cm 2 cm 6 cm
Area • Area is the measure of the region inside a closed figure. • Area is measured in square units. A square unit has a square that has a side length of 1 unit.
Area of a rectangle • To find the area of a rectangle, use the formula Area = length X width or A = lw. The area is in square units written x2.
Area of a square • To find the area of a square, you can use the formula A = s x s or s2 , where s represents the length of a side.
