Basic ideas • Japan public fiber network requires band shorter than 1580nm, due to use of OTDR; and use of PX30 optics, due to designed loss budget • PX30 must employ 1574 to 1580nm band • PX10 and PX20 classes could benefit from 20nm of pass band, since uncooled transmitters are a possibility for these classes • How to widen the band in a most compatible way?
Other concepts • It is good if our choice of band coincides with existing optical band plans • Most importantly, the CWDM bandplan • It is good (maybe) if the same receiver specification can operate over both transmitter specifications • The receiver band is the superset of all of the transmitter bands • We then have a ‘universal Rx’
Wavelength Plans EPON Tx & Rx Video A Option A: 1574 to 1580nm (PX30 must use this band) EPON Tx & Rx Video B Option B: 1574 to 1594nm (potential superset) EPON Tx & Rx Video C Option C: 1580 to 1600nm (Alignment with CWDM) EPON Tx & Rx Video D Option D: 1574 to 1600nm (Superset and CWDM!) EPON Tx & Rx Video D Option D: PX10-20 Tx EPON Tx & Rx Video D Option D: PX30 Tx 1480 1500 1520 1540 1560 1580 1600
Proposal • Specify the downstream 10G EPON wavelength band to be 1574 to 1600 nm. • PX10 and PX20 Tx: 1580 to 1600nm • PX30 Tx: 1574 to 1580nm • All classes receivers: 1574 to 1600nm
