INDIGENOUS PATHWAYS INTO EMPLOYMENT (IPE) • flexible vertical and horizontal pathways into employment in the education workforce, • maximising Indigenous participation in the education workforce, • retaining and building the capacity of the existing Indigenous education workforce by addressing ongoing support and career development needs.
The Challenge “How to satisfy the specific training demands of a small, geographically dispersed audience, cost effectively” …take an employment based training experience and enhance the offering by adding flexibility via the use of technology
Survey: Indigenous / Remote Staff (500) • Low enrolment / completion rates, • Remain in their community & study, • Require recognition of their current skill sets, • Primary teachers had insufficient adult coaching / mentoring skill sets, • Teachers unfamiliar with the VET / RPL / AQF framework.
commencement of the first group of ATs undertaking a diploma level qualification, • the successful implementation of on-site coaches, and • the implementation of the holistic classroom practices model, learning at and “Learning at and through Work” • Employment-based model, • Structured training on and off the job, • Formal training contracts between all parties, • Has a training plan, and • Fit under a National VET recognition framework, • Supported by on-site / regional coaches, and • Holistic classroom practices model.
