Meet the Champions Linda Chen 1st Flight
Linda Chen1st Flight • When did you begin golfing? • I started playing at age 12…I was a daddy’s girl and followed him to the course on weekends. • Current or Former Profession • I was the former Tournament Director for the LPGA Ginn Open held at Reunion Report. Currently, I’m a marketing business development consultant.
Linda Chen1st Flight • In what other hobbies/interests are you involved ? • I love home improvement projects, gardening, growing organic vegetables, and biking. • What is your favorite course to play? • Favorite course…hmm. Any one that’s in good condition, not busy, has nice staff and good food! • What is your favorite club in your bag?
Linda Chen1st Flight • Have you advanced to either Semi or Final Championship level previously? If so, tell us about your experience. • This is my first EWGA tournament—but it won’t be my last! Once upon a time…I tried to play golf for a living…mini tour over 13 years ago. This EWGA Championship is the first round of golf I played where I actually putted out, played the ball down and played with the USGA rules of golf…and loved it! The last 10 years of “business” golf were mostly scrambles or casual client-golf, where you give putts and drop balls without penalty. It feels good to play the game as it was meant to be played!
Linda Chen1st Flight • What good luck charm or special routine will you use at the Semi-final/Final rounds? • No special routine, except maybe not to play Friday (unless for some reason I don’t get a practice round in before then). Good luck charm…maybe I’ll have one after the Semi-final!
Linda Chen1st Flight • How did you become involved with the EWGA? • Sally Livingston got me involved. She rallied all the women at Reunion Resort. • What might others be interested/surprised to know about you. • Something interesting…hmmm…I get a buzz after only half a beer, which is why I drink Shandies (1/2 beer, ½ Sprite). One funny story—I had to buy rust remover after I sent in my tournament entry, as my clubs had been sitting in the garage untouched since March. First soaked them in Coke and it did work—so that’s not a myth.
