About Redistricting • Redistricting is the process of drawing new boundary lines for public offices • Following each decennial federal census, trustee area boundaries are examined and, if necessary, adjustments are made the boundaries of any or all of the trustee areas • One of the goals of redistricting is that districts be "nearly equal in population" • California Education Code section 5000 • Community college districts that elect trustees at-large but require they reside within trustee areas "rearranges“ boundaries rather than “redistricts”

  3. 2010 Census Redistricting Data • 2010 Federal Decennial Census • Public Law 94-171 Redistricting data • Total Population by race/ethnicity • Group for total representation • Total Population 18 and over by race/ethnicity (voting age group)

Timeline • 11/16/2011- SOCCCD Board approved action and resolution petition County Committee on School District Organization consider and approve Trustee Area realignment • 1/18/2012- County Committee meeting: Approve or deny requested changes • CDR sends 2012 SOCCCD Trustee Area boundary files & documentation to County Surveyor and Registrar of Voters

  15. Recommended Action The County Committee approve the realignment of SOCCCD Trustee area boundaries.
