  1. Swimmers and Parents Meeting League Swimming Things to know about

  2. What are Leagues • These are like football leagues except they take place over 3 competition dates. • There are Junior(Diddy Leagues) and Senior leagues • We gain status according to league we are in and where we finish in the league. • Doing well is our priority – essential for the swimmers and for the club

  3. When do they take place • Junior Leagues once per year. • Dates are always April, May, and June. • Senior Leagues twice a year Autumn Leagues – Oct, Nov, and Dec Winter leagues – Jan, Feb, and March. Today we are focussing on Junior (Diddy Leagues)

  4. What Leagues are we in • A team are in Nuneaton League • B Team are in Leicester League. • Reason – Top clubs are in Nuneaton League and Leicester League is slightly more friendly for the B Team

  5. Very Important • We need our swimmers to be available. • If our swimmers are available we do well and enjoy the competition. • Success also shows other clubs we have good swimmers. • If swimmers are not available we do less well it is harder for those who do swim – not ideal. • We want to do well for our swimmers and club

  6. Team Selection • For Leagues we select swimmers to win or achieve the highest placing and points possible. • Some swimmers may get no individual events if other swimmers are faster. • We will select people for relays only as we need four swimmers and they are still essential to do well in. • For non-league galas - Generally teams are picked giving all individual swims where possible. • We need everyone to give their best even if they only do relays – they are great fun and are matter greatly to the result.

  7. What is expected at a Gala • Swimmers need to arrive in time for the warm up and be ready on poolside when needed. • Swimmers check what events they are in including strokes and distance. • Bring Kit bags on poolside and have towels to dry off and Club tee shirts to wear to keep warm between swims. • STAY WITH TEAM AND NOT MAM AND DAD. • Shout and support our swimmers to help success.

  8. What to do between swims • Drink plenty of Liquids. • Eat only light treats – Haribos or sugary sweets, not food or pasta. The gala will last approx. 2 hours maximum and so water is best pasta type food will not make any difference to your performance. • Sit or stand but save energy and do not dash or mess around – know how many races till you swim.

  9. What happens when its your swim • The team manager will tell you its nearly time • Speak with the coach for any specific instructions • Make sure you have goggles ready and think about the swim. • Encourage yourself to make a PB swim. • Find out your time and discuss the result with the coach. • NEVER GIVE UP a 5th is better than a 6th all places matter to gain points.

  10. Poolside kit • Club tee shirt • Club swimming hat • Flip flops to keep feet off floor • Goggles – do not forget them and make sure they are tight enough. • Bag with towels in to dry off and keep water bottle to refresh yourself.

  11. What happens next • 2 further Diddy league Galas to go. • Dates are:- 12th May 23rd June • Keep both the dates free. • Be available to swim and swim well. • We want our swimmers to do well but we need them to swim in order to achieve this.
