  3. LED Update • Partnering with Tāmaki Regeneration Company to develop a Employment Precinct Strategy • Employment Land Study of Penrose, Onehunga, Wiri • Finalising the Local Board work programme for 2019-20

LED Update:Tāmaki Employment Precinct Strategy • A joint project with Tāmaki Regeneration Company • Have engaged with Tāmaki businesses, experts and stakeholders to test our thinking and develop the key moves • Four key moves are proposed: • Develop and roll out a business attraction and investment programme • Establish an employment futures programme • Create conditions for innovation • Develop and roll out a business support services package

LED Update:Employment Land Study • Looking to develop a clear understanding of the industrial areas of Onehunga, Penrose and Wiri • We will be wanting to involve the BIDs and Business Associations in the research • The research will enable ATEED to: • articulate the contribution Auckland’s industrial land makes to the growth of quality jobs for all Aucklanders now and in the future • identify any threats to that and develop plans and policies to ensure our industrial land can continue to make a significant contribution to our purpose • inform decisions on investment, infrastructure, and future iterations of the Auckland Plan and strategic planning decisions.  • Have just commissioned Martin Jenkins to undertake the research

LED Update:Local Board work programme 2019-20 • We have proposed a work programme to Local Boards. • Highlights include: • Sustainability kick-start programme • Onehunga sustainability development programme • Support for the Pop-up Business School • Support for the Young Enterprise Scheme • Supporting Manurewa, Papakura and Otara-Papatoetoe Local Boards’ project groups for Manurewa, Papakura and Hunters Corner • Approval for the work programme expected in June 2019.

Future of Work • The Future of Work is undergoing major shifts, driven primarily by technological advancements • ATEED is undertaking research and working with stakeholders to identify opportunities to prepare Auckland for this era of rapid workplace change • Research consists of: • Auckland and the Future of Work: A working paper to identify key areas where ATEED can provide the most support • Auckland Future Skills: Commissioned research to help identify future jobs and skills needs in Auckland • Research will be presented at the Future Ready Summit on 26 June • The summit is designed to increase sustainable and quality employment in Auckland by sharing practical insights, local and international best practice models, with a focus on youth.

Tourism Update • Go with Tourism - a new initiative to help fill growing skills shortages • Encourages more young people into a career in the tourism industry • Directly connects young people with potential employers • Provides employers with insights, a toolkit of resources, advice to share on attracting, recruiting and retaining youth • As we work to support the growth of quality jobs for all Aucklanders, we expect our Go With Tourism employers to: • Offer the job-seeker a liveable wage within three years of employing them • Offer a sustainable role • Have the ability to offer the job-seeker the opportunity to grow within the company

Events update • Elemental AKL, Monday 1 July – Thursday 31 July 2019 • A regionwide winter festival to fire up the senses showcasing entertainment, cuisine, dazzling light installations and culture around the region • Making Auckland a must-visit winter destination during the shoulder season   • Attract more domestic and international visitors during the quieter time of the year  • Activity programmed in central city and the regions of Auckland   • Groups together a range of existing and new events that align to the festival themes

Events update continued • Nelson Mandela My Life exhibition, Eden Park, April - August • Auckland Art Fair, 1-5 May, ATEED created videos with two participating artists to share their Auckland highlights, for a visitor audience • NZ International Comedy Festival, 2–26 May – regional venues • Auckland Writers Festival, 14-19 May • NZ vs Tonga, RILF Oceania Cup, Mt Smart, 22 June • War Horse, 21 June – 7 July, The Civic • ATEED is in the process of developing a Māori elements toolkit to show some of different ways Auckland event organisers and promoters can incorporate more Māori themes or elements into events
