  1. SMALL COMMERCIAL ENERGY AUDIT PROGRAM NYSERDA PROGRAM WITH FOUR SERVICE PROVIDERS IN FOUR GEOGRAPHIC REGIONS

  2. Who’s Eligible • Any building that has $75,000 • or less in annual electric bills. • The building must be served by one of these electric utilities: Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corp; New York State Electric and Gas Corp; National Grid; Con Edison; Orange and Rockland Utilities; and Rochester Gas and Electric

  3. Typical Audits • Small office buildings, small schools, retailers, museums, firehouses, churches/houses of worship, municipal buildings and town halls.

  4. Audit often is the beginning of process • One audit of a multi-business building in NNY was the initial step in the process of installing 159 photo-voltaic panels. We participated in the feasibility study using the data from the report. • Municipalities and not-for profits use the report as part of the grant application process.

  5. An Energy Audit……. • Helps owner/boards to make informed energy decisions and install energy efficient systems. • Identifies effective improvements that give substantial annual energy savings and lower operating costs. • Provides a cash flow analysis to help customers obtain reduced interest rate through the NYS Energy $mart Loan Program

  6. An Energy Audit….. • Reviews usage patterns and makes recommendations in that regard. • Explores temperature setbacks in unoccupied buildings (churches…45 degree) • Provides detailed analysis of lights, HVAC systems, controls, domestic hot water, conservation measures, other custom measures and demand electric costs. • Is basically an educational event.

  7. Sample Energy Conservation MeasureSt Patrick’s Church • Utilize Programmable Thermostat on seven furnaces. Use 45 degree setbacks. • Project cost: $0.00 • Fuel Savings: 83.3 Mbtu/year • Annual Energy Cost Savings: $1,558.00

  8. Sample Energy Conservation MeasureVillage Municipal Building • Install Outdoor Air Reset on Boiler. • Project cost: $600-$800 • Simple Payback: 1.5 years • Fuel Savings: 49.3 Mbtu/year. • Installation of an outdoor reset control will permit modulation of the heating loop temperature with both outside air temp. and building occupancy.

  9. Energy Conservation MeasureCooperative Extension Bldg. • Replace fluorescent and Metal Halide lights with electronic ballast fluorescents and sensors. • Annual elec. savings: 117,672 Kwh. • Project Cost: $50,774.10 • Nationalgrid contribution: $27,452.96 • Annual Savings: $13,085.174

  10. State-wide focus on CCE Offices • Energy and Community PWT could promote audits for all offices (depending on eligibility). • Using simple BTU/Sq.Ft./HDD calculations and KwH reductions, CCEs could determine total energy/GHG emissions reductions for CCE system. • Based on written evaluations, project could contribute to evidence-based information.

  11. NYSERDA.org • Check the website for names of service providers and opportunities in region two to become an auditor. • Jerry Loch, Energy Educator/Auditor • GKL22@cornell.edu • 203 N. Hamilton St. • Watertown, NY 13601
