Program Guidelines Please refer to Program Guidelines document
Program Guidelines • Application Period Extended • Stimulus Funded • Intent: cover most of audit cost • Quality info to building owners • Measures self-funded by owner • Loans from AK Div. of Economic Development
Important Dates • August 10, 2012: Audit reports complete and received by customer. • August 31, 2012: Reimbursement request deadline
Energy Audit Level • ASHRAE Level II energy audit or better • Customers may specify additional areas for deeper inspection • Customer-oriented approach
Reporting • Auditor responsibility: by 4:30 August 10 • To customer: Audit report, invoice, and supporting documents • To AEA: Audit report, 2012 audit report summary form, and digital utility records to energyaudit@aidea.org • Add measures to AkEnergyEfficiencyMap.org (June1) • Audit reports can be in your own format, but must contain the following elements: • Specify by ECM the estimated dollar investment, energy savings, dollar savings, and payback period (or better) for each recommended measure. • Photos are very helpful to customers • Digital utility bill records: • 2 years+ in Excel, Portfolio Manager, or AkEE Map
reporting • Customer responsibility: by 4:30 August 31, 2012 • Rate auditor online • Submit request for reimbursement form with • Copy of auditor’s invoice • Proof of payment • By August 31, 2013 (1 year later) • Implement ECMs to the extent committed on the application form.
Audit Report Quality • Audit all major building systems • Heating, ventilation, AC • Lighting (indoor, out; controls; light levels; after-hours use) • Electrical equipment (motors, pumps, plug loads, appliances) • Specialized equipment (walk-in freezers, kitchen equipment, etc.) • Domestic hot water • Building envelope • Energy conservation
Audit contents • Check and report on all possible energy savings • After hours use of the building/systems • Energy conservation • Plug loads • Use data loggers or sub-meters whenever possible • Occupancy versus use • Log starts, stops, temperatures, light levels, etc. • Report data log use in white paper if common occurrence
Optional elements • Building modeling (AkWarm Commercial, other) • Sub meters • Indoor air quality • Infrared imagery
Modeling software • AHFC’s AkWarm Commercial • An option, not required • For training, contact James Diemer, jdiemer@ahfc.us
benchmarking • Preferred: Alaska Energy End-Use Study • New data on AEA’s web site akenergyauthority.org • May also use EPA Portfolio Manager’s building rating system or others.
Customer ratings • Customers rate auditors online for public to see • Auditor statements of qualifications • Please include the following: • Home City • Service area • Phone, email, web, physical address • Brief statement of qualification • List special areas of interest • Names of individual auditors • Edit existing pages by emailing new statement to: • info@akenergyefficiency.org
Future Selection of auditors • AEA may use the quality of this year’s energy audits to determine qualification for future years. • Likely to select a smaller pool • May continue to select from the best of the best to encourage continuous improvement • May conduct a 3rd party quality review of auditors and their reports
White papers • We welcome white papers on energy efficiency findings • Example 1: Energy savings achieved by use of remotely switched power strips at each workstation • Example 2: Using federal tax incentives to implement energy efficiency measures • 1-page document • Focus on results, good or bad • Can also create a “Story” on the efficiency map
Definition of mechanical ventilation • Additional reimbursement is available for buildings with mechanical ventilation, including: • Full HVAC systems • Mechanical exterior air intake and controls • This does not include buildings with exhaust fans only. • Auditors are responsible for checking that the building correctly specified mechanical ventilation and square footage.
Rural travel stipend • Customers 100 miles or more from an auditor receive an additional $300 for auditor travel, if… • 3 other energy audits in the same community were performed during the same trip
In the Future • Posting of new Audit Summary Report Form • EE Map database to add utility records • Auditor selection • Loans
