  1. ALIENS IN A STRANGE LAND “Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evil doers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation” (I Peter 2:11-12).

  2. A Current Controversy • Should we protect our borders? Many have strong opinions. • Should aliens be granted citizenship? • How about “free” benefits? • Are aliens beneficial to our society? • This is not a political sermon. How you feel about these points is not “religious”. • Each of us is an alien in a strange land.

  3. We Don’t Belong Here! • Phil. 3:18-20 • It’s so easy to “make ourselves at home.” • “Their inner thought is that their houses are forever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they have called their lands after their own names…” (Psalm 49:11). • James 4:14; Psalm 39:4f • It’s not just that we’re “temporary”. We shouldn’t feel “at home”. We’re “strangers.” • I don’t “speak the language”. I don’t follow the customs.

  4. We’re Under Attack • “Fleshly lusts” beset us all. (text) • Gal. 5:17 • Not just our “morals”, but our very faith. • Insults, “Religion is the opiate of the people.” • We’re silly, immature, ignorant. • From our youth. • Our attitudes, activities, habits and ambitions are attacked. They attempt to mold us into an image not of our choosing.

  5. The World Is Watching • For an opening to accuse us. • We’re “foreign”. • “They” attack our culture, our forefathers, our God. • Good works defend our worthwhileness. • They also exhibit our God. • That He may be glorified – Matt. 5:16
