  3. Formations • Position of a group of dancers in the stage space; shapes that are made when dancers are formed into groups

  4. Levels • Location in space of a movement. Levels are described as high, middle, and low. • High – feet of the ground as in jumping • Middle – with feet on the floor as in walking • Low – with some part of the upper body on the floor

  5. Shape • In dance and geometry the terms angles, curves, twisted, and straight lines, are used to describe shapes in dance. • Symmetrical – balanced proportions. Both sides of an object or image correspond in size, shape, and relative proportion when divided in half. • Asymmetrical – form that is not the same on both sides when divided in half • Pg. 21 in Dance Composition Basics

  6. Rondo Choreographic pattern in which ‘A’ is the primary movement phrase and is constantly being repeated and interspersed between others. B, C, and D should be different from each other and A. • Pattern – • A • B • A • C • A • D • A

Your first small group dance will follow the pattern of “Rondo” and each section will help you learn how to create a dance using space. • Rondo Space Dance • Entrance – enter from off stage and move into your first formation. • A Phrase – Create 2 counts of 8 using non-locomotor movement • B Phrase – Create 2 counts of 8 using locomotor movement • C Phrase – Create 2 counts of 8 using all three levels • D Phrase – Create 2 counts of 8 making at least 4 shapes with you body (Symmetrical & Asymmetrical should be used!!) • Ending Pose – Hold your ending formation and then exit the stage.
