LEARNING GOAL: Score 3.0 Students will be able to conduct short research projects that build knowledge through investigation of different aspects of a topic. Part 1: Students are to complete one project of their choice from the list below. Part 2: Students will be completing a written expository in class about what life was like for our first Florida settlers. (the research and writing will be done in school, but students are able to acquire additional research of their own at home as well) REMEMBER THAT THIS MUST BE WRITTEN IN THEIR OWN WORDS NOT COPIED FROM THEIR SOURCE. SETTLER PROJECT IDEAS: 1. Create a TIMELINE of 12 key events that occurred in the Civil War. Be sure to include 4 events of what happened in Florida during this time. 2. Create a DIORAMA of a typical Florida Settler home in the late 1800’s. 3. Recreate 3 FLORIDA SETTLER’S TOOLS. Write a description of how each was used to help the settlers on an index card. 4. Create a MAP of 5 Florida Railroads. Label the map with train routes, cities, and dates the railroads were completed. Be prepared to explain how the railroads changed Florida. 5. There must be a minimum of 10 entries in your journal. 6. Create a citrus PRODUCT MAP of the different types of citrus grown in Florida. Be prepared to explain how the citrus industry changed Florida. 7. Write a RESEARCH PAPER on Henry Flagler telling about his early life, accomplishments, and most importantly his impact on Florida. Remember to include pictures as well. All projects are due December 19th . Museum time 10:30-11:30 Each day that projects are late will result in one grade lower. These are projects done at home and families are encouraged to get involved in the research and creation of the projects. Projects will be assessed for: * accuracy of information (Is my information correct?) * creativity (Did I create an original and creative project?) * quality of final product (Is this my best work?)
