  1. English 10 - 2/6/12 • Arnold has to deal with a lot of death in the book. Why does he sometimes laugh? How does he find his joy when he gets depressed? • Why do elephants have trunks? • Ergasiophobia – fear of work. • Goals – Review the rubric for the “Absolutely True” assignment. Learn how to use a quote in a paper or PowerPoint. • Homework – Have a Big idea selected and written out by tomorrow. Don’t forget to study for vocab. quiz #20 on Friday.

  2. English 10 - 2/7/12 • Why is it important that Arnold meet new people and make new friends? Why is it important that he reconcile with Rowdy in the end? • What did Mrs. Bullet say to Mr. Bullet? • Formication – A feeling that ants are crawling all over one’s skin. • Goals – Focus on choosing the big idea for your paper. Get quotes and transfer them to a word document. • Homework – Complete whatever you didn’t get done in class.

  3. English 10 - 2/8/12 • Would you be willing to go to a slaughterhouse and kill a cow? Do you eat meat? • How do sheep in Mexico say Merry Christmas? • Bezonian – A mean, low person. • Goals – Create a thesis for your intro paragraph and topic sentences to go with each quote. Work on a map for your introduction paragraph. • Homework – Finish your thesis, map, and topic sentences.

  4. English 10 - 2/9/12 • In “Absolutely True” several characters escape their lives through “literature,” e.g. Rowdy and comic books, Mary and romance novels, and Junior and his drawings. What kind of relationship do you have with “literature”? • Don’t take life so seriously; nobody gets out alive. • Anhedonia – an inability to be happy. • Goals – Add hook to your introduction paragraph. Begin work on author’s purpose for body paragraphs. • Homework – Complete intro paragraph. Study for vocabulary #20 tomorrow.

  5. English 10 - 2/10/12 • Five minutes to prepare for Quiz #20. • How do you fix a pumpkin? • Onomatophobia – fear of hearing a given word or words • Goals – Complete study of vocab. 20. Work on your personal connection sentences for your body paragraphs. • Homework – Complete author’s purpose sentences and your personal connection sentences for your body paragraphs.
