American Board of Surgery Sixty months of residency training at no more than three residency programs. This limit applies regardless of whether an applicant completed clinical years as a non-designated preliminary or categorical resident. Individuals who completed their training at more than three programs will be required to repeat one or more years of training to comply with this limit. For applicants who trained at more than one program, documentation of satisfactory completion of years in prior programs from the appropriate program directors must be submitted.

Before accepting a resident who is transferring from another program, the program director must obtain written or electronic verification of previous educational experiences and a summative competency-based performance evaluation of the transferring resident. III.C.2. A program director must provide timely verification of residency education and summative performance evaluations for residents who leave the program prior to completion.
