ADVANCED DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS • Two credits in the same Foreign Language • Algebra II w/ Trigonometry
Honors Endorsement REQUIREMENTS • 14 out of 16 required core credits must be Honors/Adv/PreAP or above. • All core in 11th-12th grades must be Honors/Adv/PreAP or above.
Alabama High School Graduation Exam (AHSGE) All Diploma Types Require Passing All Five (5) Sections of the AHSGE (Math, Reading, Biology, English, and Social Studies)
AHSGE Any subject area juniors do NOT pass they have “Failed” Testing Dates after Spring are: July, Sep., Dec., and March of their senior year. It is VERY important that students pass the AHSGE as early as possible. Not passing the AHSGE will jeopardize your student’s graduation!
Grade Classification Grade classification is based on the number of credits a student earns NOT the number of years he or she has attended high school or the expected graduation year. *Additional testing requirement: Students must have a passing score on theReading & Math subject tests of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam to be eligible for promotion to the 11th grade

CreditRecovery • New application and policy • See WHS Course Information Book for details • All Credit Recovery will be offered during summer school and after school hours for a fee.

ACT • If your student is currently taking Algebra II w/ Trig- test in June • If you student is in Geometry plan on taking the ACT Spring or Summer of Jr. year. • All students should have their “Goal Score” in place NO LATER THAN DEC. 1st (last testing date is Oct) • Send scores to colleges and WHS
Advanced Placement (AP) • Freshmen College Level Courses • Prepares students for the rigors of college • Students who take AP courses vs Dual Enrollment experience more success in college • College credit may be granted based on end of year AP Exam score

AP CONTINUED • Math, Science, and English AP Exams are REDUCED ($86.00 saving per exam) • 18 additional hours of test prep time (three 6-hr sessions) • Additional AP Environmental Exam for science students willing to test and spend a minimum of 6hrs in tutoring/test prep • $100 paid directly to students for each AP qualifying score (score of 3 or higher)
ACCESS • On-line courses offered by the ALSDE • Allows WHS to expand our course offerings • Allows students more scheduling flexibility • Allows students to pursue credit advancement • Successful students are: Motivated, Mature, & Independent Learners, and are computer literate.
DUAL-ENROLLMENT Students have other off campus and on-line dual enrollment options to supplement their education. However, students will not be released from the regular school day to attend college level courses that are offered on-campus at WHS. (English Composition, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Calculus, Statistics)
DUAL-ENROLLMENT CONT’D ON-LINE OPTIONS: University of Alabama “Early College” Troy University ON-CAMPUS OPTIONS: Faulkner University Auburn Montgomery Central Alabama Community College (CACC) Courses to be transferred to WHS, must be preapproved by the student’s counselor
ELECTIVES • Students should select any and all required electives not taken previously • Students should select courses based on: interests, needed life skills, career exploration or preparation “Kuder Results”

Scheduling Process • STUDENT request courses • Number of requests determines the type of courses and the number of courses needed • 2012-3 Master Schedule is created based on requests (demand) • Automated scheduler used to create schedules
Scheduling Policy • Course requests are binding. Therefore, schedule changes will only be made to correct a school caused error. • Talk to your student regarding their course selections as they relate to their level of commitment and life & academic goals. • Follow directions carefully. • Submit by deadline: April 25th
