  1. What to know about 4th grade! Classroom Management Homework: Nightly work will always include spelling, and reading log. Other homework might include math, completing unfinished class work, preparing for tests, and any assigned projects. Homework will not be given just for the sake of having homework. It is given in order to reinforce the skills being taught in school. Study Guides will be given before most tests. Your child has an agenda in which he or she will write down all assignments. I will have a student stamp the agenda in the afternoon after your child has written the homework assignment. If there is no stamp, a note to the parents will be written instead. This will be because of no homework, or not following school rules. Parents are asked to sign the agenda if I have written a note home. Please write me notes and place in homework folders for me. If there is a problem with your child not completing homework please let me know so we can make arrangements to help the situation. All homework will be in their RED homework folder. It is to be returned each day along with their agenda. Signed Papers: Graded papers will be sent home every Wednesday in their GREY take home folders. These folders should be signed and returned on Thursday. Please keep all school related informational papers at home and graded papers. If you have questions about graded papers, please send them back with a note attached. Newsletters: I will send monthly newsletters. These will outline the topics we are covering in class, test dates, upcoming events, and important classroom and school information. All newsletters will be posted on my wiki. Attendance: If your child is late to school, (not in the classroom at 7:45am) he or she must have a tardy slip from the front office. If your child is absent, please send an excuse within 2 days in order for the absence to be excused. If your child is going home in a manner that is different than daily method, please send a written note that morning. If there isn’t a note, I must send the child home in the normal way. If you have an emergency please contact the front office before 1:00pm (439-3000). If you email a change and do not get a response from me, please call the office. Recess: Weather permitting, students will be given the opportunity to interact with friends in other classes during recess. During inclement weather recess will be held inside. If you have any extra board games, please do not hesitate to bring them in! Lunch: Our lunch time is 11:42 Please feel free to join your child for lunch anytime; please per Mrs. Turpin’s request- wait until after Labor Day to join us at lunch. Lunch menus can be accessed on the web at www.hoover.k12.al.us/cnp. Please remember to sign-in and get a visitor sticker at the front desk. This year students do not have a designated treat day, except Wednesday is slushy day. I am leaving the choice up to you and your child. Please talk with your child about choosing treats responsibly. Please remember that soft drinks, drinks with red dye, glass bottles, and food from other restaurants are not allowed in the cafeteria. Please let me know of any food allergies your child might have. Wednesday Folders: Every Wednesday I will send home a weekly folder containing graded papers and important information from me and the school. Please read it carefully as this is an important means of my communication with you. Extracurricular Activities: Students have opportunities to try out for other extra curricular activities such as: choir, chess, broadcast, First Friends, and Peer Tutors. Transportation: I keep a record of each child’s method of transportation in the afternoons. If for any reason this should change you MUST send a note for that day! Please update your School cast account which is the automated system that will alert you to any emergency dismissal events. Please know that you may not change transportation on those emergency dismissal days. Your child must go home the way that you have indicated on the forms you turned in. Field Trips: We are planning three field trips this year. We will travel to the Aquarium in Chattanooga, complete a space mission at the McWane Center, and visit the American Village. Responsibility Room- This is a policy that the fourth grade teachers have implemented to ensure that students are completing work in a timely manner as well to provide a teacher willing to help when necessary. When a student fails to complete a homework assignment, or makes the choice not to complete class work, then he or she will remain inside during recess to complete this
