P2000 G3 – Remote SnapDisaster Recovery for remote sites over IP (WAN) P2000 G3 P2000 G3 • Snapshot-based replication over Ethernet to enable Disaster Recovery. • VSS-based Snapshots replicated from Site “A” to Site “B”. • Initial replication can be done with a physical media transfer. • Site “B” can mount the latest Snapshots to begin running as the primary online source. • Replication only moves only new data across the wire. • Can be replicated over LAN/WAN using iSCSI ports, or over FC using FC ports. • Can hold 512 Snaps per array
P2000 G3 – Remote SnapDisaster Recovery for Local Campus over FC P2000 G3 P2000 G3 • Snapshot-based replication over FC to enable Disaster Recovery. • VSS-based Snapshots can be replicated between arrays w/out servers in the replication path • Initial replication can be done with a physical media transfer. • Replication only moves only new data across the FC link. • Up to 512 Snaps per array
Recent Remote Snap Enhancements (for FC and FC/iSCSI controllers only) Many to 1 Replication (up to 4 nodes) replicate from “many” branch offices to the home office for the purposes of backing up data from the branch office Mixed controller replication P2000 G3 FC Controller -> FC/iSCSI Combo Controller FC/iSCSI Combo controller -> P2000 G3 FC Controller Single controller to single controller replication Physical media transfer enhancement Vdisk can be shut down and removed on a live system – no longer requires the array or JBOD to be shut down
Management support – New features with G3 models Web browser support The P2000 G3 arrays support target based management, and include a Web interface and a telnet interface • They utilize a web browser for management. NEW: SMI-S interface provides a standards-based embedded management capability for applications • Native SMI-S (does not request host software to be installed) NEW: performance monitoring commands are available in the CLI telnet interface NEW: HDD Spin-down supported for energy savings (standard) The P2000 G3 supports Microsoft Internet Explorer V7.x and V8.x, and Mozilla Firefox 1.0.7 or later.
MSA P2000 G3 HDD Spin-down Feature • Reduce power consumption of a given system by at least 20% when all drives are in a spun-down state. • Supports both SATA, MDL and SAS disk drives. • JBOD enclosures are supported, in addition to the RAID head. • Management Features: • User enable/disable (default is off) • Can set policy per VDisk • User must configure the inactivity timer for each VDisk (includes dedicated spares) • Disk Scrubbing disabled when Spindown is activated • Unused and Hot-Spare HDDs • Once enabled, unused and global spare disks are automatically monitored with a default policy. • User can modify the inactivity timer for unused and global spare disks. • GUI Monitoring: • Indicates HDDs and VDisks that are in a spun-down state • Provides a counter for how many times an HDD has spun down.
Upgrading existing MSA2000 arrays • P2000 G3 controllers can be used to replace controllers in MSA2000 arrays. This is a “Data in Place” process! • Existing MSA2000 and MSA2000 G2 customers can upgrade their systems with P2000 G3 controllers (FC, SAS or iSCSI). • Retain their chassis, drives, and JBODs • Newly configured unit takes on the full personality of a G3 except that the “back-end” of the array head itself would be restricted to the SAS 3Gb transfer speed • Vdisk configuration on the older array will be detected • P2000 G3 features like increased scalability, standard snapshot and Volume Copy, (optional Remote Snap for FC or Combo) would now be characteristic of their newly upgraded array • Cross-protocol , in addition to generational upgrades are also supported • For example owners of an early MSA2000i iSCSI array (G1) could upgrade with third generation P2000 G3 FC controllers. • Review the upgrade whitepapers for more information • Upgrading the HP StorageWorks MSA2000 G2 to the P2000 G3 MSA • (http://h20195.www2.hp.com/v2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA0-8304ENW.pdf)
