  1. Report on ICHEP06 Moscow, Russian Federation Lee Pondrom, UW Madison, 25 Sept 2006

  2. Possible new c-cbar states • Several new resonances have been seen at the B factories-daughters of B decays • One prominent signature is X->J/ψ • The X(3872) has been confirmed at the Tevatron.

  3. CP violation in the B sector • This is a busy area, only a few things will be discussed

  4. Kobayashi-Maskawa Phase l ~ 0.22 CP violation is due to a complex phase in quark mixing matrix CP violation parameters (f1, f2, f3) = (b, a, g )

  8. Constraint on the Unitarity Triangle _ Time-dependent Dalitz analysisof B0  D[ KSp+p- ]h0 hep-ex/0605023 submitted to PRL ? f1=70o f1=20o Disfavored at 98.3% C.L. ? (^_^) f1= 20.0o± 1.3o (Belle data only)

  9. The unitarity triangle: a year ago Already many observable quantities are over-constraining the unitarity triangle.

  10. Electroweak Sector • Here again only a few topics • Charged currents at HERA • Top mass • Single top production

  11. Cosmic Rays • Highest energies – Auger detector • Atmospheric neutrinos and Super K

  12. 1 particle/km2/century

  13. Above Ethr ≈ 7*1019 eV, protons loose rapidly energy via pion photoproduction. Interaction length ≈ 6 Mpc Energy loss ≈ 20 % / interaction p + γ 2.7 K → N+ π

  14. Fluorescence Detector (FD) • Longitudinal development of the shower • Calorimetric measurement of the energy • Calibration of the energy scale • Direction of the shower • 12% duty cycle ! Auger hybrid detector • Surface Detector (SD) • Front of shower at ground • Direction of the shower • “High” statistics

  15. The Auger Observatory Total area ~3000 km2 1600 Surface detectors (“water tanks”) 24 fluorescence telescopes 6 in each of 4 buildings About ¾ installed and operational Completion in 2007 50 km

  16. Statistics is now about ½ year of full Observatory (~7000 km2 sr yr) Efficiency =100% above 3 EeV Systematic error on the energy ±~ 25%

  17. Lots more stuff of course • The end
