2. Assignment 1 My name is Angela Hoover, and I transferred to TTU as a junior from RSCC. I am terrible in chemistry but have always liked all of the other science classed I have taken. I am almost always indecisive and often afraid to commit to one thing I want to do for the rest of my life. I’m still just not sure what I want to do. The one thing I do know is I enjoy being outside, and am also interested in working with animals. Lately, I have been thinking that I may want to work in a nature center or perhaps an animal sanctuary. Right now I’m enrolled in the Wildlife Fisheries program. I think I lean toward law enforcement because my father is a retired police officer.

Assignment 2 • I do not belong to any clubs, but I have seen the signs up for the Wildlife Society before and thought I would go but they are usually when I am in class or at work. • Maybe in the future my schedule will allow me to attend. After learning about the Upper Cumberland conservation Society, • I am also interested in joining this organization. The Beta Beta Beta Biology Honor Society would probably be interesting too. I am not excited by the Tech Marine Biology Club or the Student Fisheries Association since I’m not very interested in fish.

Get to know these American Alps this summer as an intern. The refuge, located off of Awendaw, South Carolina, consists of 34,229 acres of beach, sand dunes, salt marshes, maritime forests, tidal creeks, fresh and brackish water impoundments, and 30,000 acres of open water. Bulls Cape and Lighthouse are the largest barrier islands of the Refuge. Intern will spend the majority of their time working on the Cape Island Loggerhead Nests Relocation Project. Website: http://caperomain.fws.gov/ Responsibilities include: perform nest/false crawl identification, nest relocation, caging hatchery, cage construction, predator control inventory of nests for hatch success rates, and clean up, 18%; participate on a variety of tasks to include colonial nesting bird surveys, posting of bird nesting areas, planting and posting threatened seabeach amaranth seedlings, visitor center work, provide general information to the public, assist with environmental education programs, and assisting with other work projects on the refuge, 20%. Training/Educational Opportunities: all training will be on the job training with most relating to nest relocation and survey techniques boat and ATV safety. Interns will be educated in sea turtle biology, conservation wildlife management/survey techniques, boat and ATV safety, basic mechanics and barrier island dynamics.
