Aims of the project • connect rural wastewater treatment to traditional land use planning • promote co-operation between different stakeholders • increase participation of local land owners and inhabitants • create new planning practises
Existing wastewater systems • wastewater systems of the households checked out in 2006 • some renovations needed in 70 % of the systems
The village plan • a draft of the village plan has been approved by the city government: • about 100 new building sites in small groups • in the centre of the village new sites closer to each other and the building sites smaller • new houses in the border of forests, all fields unconstructed
Wastewater treatment • a preliminary checking of the wastewater systems suitable for new building sites • recommendations vary from dry toilets to small treatment plants suitable for groups of houses • renovations of existing houses connected to the systems whenever possible
Co-operation and participation • teamwork between different experts wasn’t close enough, old ways of working remained • local inhabitants participated very eagerly in the project • a new way of working with inhabitants
Conclusions • most of the objectives were achieved • the way of working with inhabitants will be applied in other areas • the projects of other partners very different and difficult to apply in case Kaislastenlahti • co-operation has been made with the Hungarian partner
