  1. Assignment/Activity • In groups of 3 or 4 draw on poster board the surface of the Earth when the oceans were formed. (Clouds of water vapor were created by volcanic activity and possibly meteors) Total Points- 15

  2. Journal Entry- Do Now! 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by Ocean water. Why can’t we use this water? Write several complete sentences explaining your reasons. Total points- 4

  3. Review • What did Earth look like when the oceans were forming • Name the 5 Oceans • How did the oceans form- lots of water vapor created by Volcanoes, released in the atmosphere Complete poster board picture. – 15 Points

  4. Journal Entry- Do Now! 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by Ocean water. Why can’t we use this water? Write several complete sentences explaining your reasons. Total points- 4

  5. Assignment Get in Groups of 3 or 4 and organize a class presentation on the reasons the ocean is a safe place for plants and animals to call Home. • Use some of my listed reasons • Present some of your own • Presentation should be 5-6 minutes.

  6. Journal Entry Section: The Ocean Floor Pretend you have walked off the edge of North America and into the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. As you walk along the ocean floor toward Europe, what do you see? Draw the ocean floor as you imagined it. Illustrate your answer in your science journal.

Draw a picture of the ocean floor on poster board and label the following: Continental Shelf, Continental Slope, Continental Rise (remember all continental parts are close to the continent), Mid Ocean Ridges, and Seamounts. • You can refer to my slides.

  13. Internet Assignment • Research examples of Plankton, Nekton, and Benthos in groups of 3 on a laptop. After your research, create Jeopardy questions describing life in each category. We’ll create a Jeopardy game on Jeopardylabs.com. Each group should prepare at least 20 questions. • Examples of Ocean life include: eggs, young fish, jellyfish, crabs…larger animals that swim: fish, turtles, whales, and seals…and snails, clams, and sea urchins. • All these animals fit into a category
