Two types of cells: Eukaryotic Prokaryotic -have a nucleus -do not a have a nucleus
Three Domains: • Bacteria- disease-causing • Archaea- chemosynthetic bacteria (make food by chemosynthesis) • Eukarya- includes both plants and animals (all eukaryotes)
There are 6 kingdoms: 2 of those are bacteria kingdoms: Kingdom Archaebacteria- includes chemosynthetic bacteria Kingdom Eubacteria-”true bacteria” – disease-causing bacteria
The other 4 all belong to the Domain Eukarya: Kingdom Protista- includes Euglena and amoebas Kingdom Fungi- includes mushrooms and molds *secrete digestive enzymes onto whatever they grow on
Kingdom Animalia- includes humans and insects *the only kingdom without cell walls Kingdom Plantae- includes plants, ferns, and mosses
The kingdom Protista has the most diverse members. • As a matter of fact they are more distantly related to each other than plants are to animals. Why are they grouped together in one kingdom?
The 7 levels of classification used today… • Kingdom • Phylum (in plants, this is “Division”) • Class • Order • Family • Genus • Species To what level would a group of families belong?
