  11. Counselor Holy Spirit’s Work= Expose the guilt of the world with regard to: • Sin- unbelief • Righteousness- Christ is physically absent • Judgment- Satan stands condemned

  13. Counselor “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear”- vs. 12 Not everything that can be said should be said

  14. Counselor “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come”

  15. Counselor “He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you”- vs. 13-15 Holy Spirit exposes: guilt, truth, knowledge of God

  16. Counselor God is glorified when he is revealed How is God revealed through us? • Transformed life • Transformed speech • Intentional communication

  17. Counselor “In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me.”

  18. Counselor Some of his disciples said to one another, "What does he mean by saying, 'In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me,' and 'Because I am going to the Father‘?” They kept asking, "What does he mean by 'a little while'? We don't understand what he is saying”

  19. Counselor Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them, "Are you asking one another what I meant when I said, 'In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me’”?

  20. Counselor “I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy”

  21. Counselor “A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world”

  22. Counselor “So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy”- vs. 16-22 Joy= Chara- calm delight

  23. Counselor “So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy”- vs. 16-22 In Christ’s Economy, pain gives way to a joy that overshadows grief and can never been taken away

  24. Counselor “In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete”- vs. 23-24

  25. Counselor "Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father”

  26. Counselor “In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father”- vs. 25-28

  27. Counselor Believers do not go through someone to get to God. Because of Jesus, believers go to God in Christ’s Name Preexistence and eternality

  28. Counselor Hebrews Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.

  29. Counselor For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.

  30. Counselor Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need- Hebrews 4:14-16

  31. Counselor Then Jesus' disciples said, "Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech. Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God”

  32. Counselor “You believe at last!” Jesus answered. “But a time is coming, and has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me”

  33. Counselor “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world”- vs. 29-33 What is peace contingent upon?

  34. Counselor Takeaways • Am I inwardly-focused? What might I be grieving? • Am I ready to trade in my grief for God’s will and purposes for my life?

  35. Counselor Takeaways • Do I regularly open myself up to the Holy Spirit’s work of exposing his truth and my sin so I can grow closer to God?

  36. Counselor Takeaways • Transformed life, speech and intentional communication. Does that describe me? Why or why not?

  37. Counselor Takeaways • Do I have peace or do I need to be “in Me” (Jesus)?
