  4. 5K on the Lake • Context • Disciples return from being sent out • Jesus finds out John the Baptist is dead • Crowd appears • Jesus heals, teaches, feeds

  5. 5K on the Lake • When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake, where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them- vs. 16-17

  6. 5K on the Lake • After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray- Mark 6:46

  7. 5K on the Lake • When Jesus is grieving and overwhelmed, what does he do?

  8. 5K on the Lake • A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. When they had rowed three or three and a half miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were terrified- vs. 18-19

  11. 5K on the Lake • He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them - Mark 6:48

  12. 5K on the Lake • As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus acted as if he were going farther. But they urged him strongly, "Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over." So he went in to stay with them- Luke 24:28-29

  13. 5K on the Lake • The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!" When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus- John 1:35-37

  15. 5K on the Lake • We gain blessing, peace, resolution, growth, joy…and so much more

  16. 5K on the Lake • But he said to them, "It is I; don't be afraid"- vs. 20 • "Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." "Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus…

  17. 5K on the Lake • …But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!”

  18. 5K on the Lake • …Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?” - Matthew 14:28-31

  21. 5K on the Lake • Meta-Principle- the disciples were sent out by Jesus. That did not guarantee smooth sailing…

  22. 5K on the Lake • Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed, for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened- Mark 6:50-52 • (cf. Matthew 13:19)

  23. 5K on the Lake • When we remember/meditate on what God has done in the past, we build faith for the present and the future

  24. 5K on the Lake • Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading- vs. 21

  25. Prayer and Reflection: • Am I overwhelmed, weary, tired, undone? What provisions have I made for time alone with God?

  26. Prayer and Reflection: • Jesus has initiated the relationship. How am I responding and seizing the opportunities?

  27. Prayer and Reflection: • Right now…am I circumstance-controlled or God-centered? What do I need to do to refocus on Jesus?
