Impact of New Deal • ‘37 recession almost caused 3rd New Deal • By 1938-39, FDR’s attention is on world affairs • Opinions differ greatly on impact of New Deal • PROS-New Deal helped US recover from worst economic crisis in history and created a required role for federal government to ensure economic stability • CRITICS-too much govt. interference upset free enterprise system, not enough done to achieve equality
