ONLINE SERVICE DELIVERY Presentation April 2003
What is Online Service Delivery? Vision The current vision of the Online Service Delivery program is to use modern web-enabled solutions to enhance University Services and better use University resources to deliver high quality teaching, learning and research outcomes 2
OSD Initiatives Objective To provide an update, and demonstrate the progress of developments such as: • Revamped University Web Site • Content Management System • Student Portal 3
Research highlighted that the site: was difficult to use required prior understanding of University structure presented image of the University as “difficult” and “inaccessible” New Website Why Change? • had no consistent look and feel • provided conflicting information • provided out-of-date information • was an impediment to building life-long relationships 5
Present information from a “user’s perspective” & in logical sequence Consistent & enhanced University image Easy to update (through CMS) Simple & easy to use Different ways to find information Collaborative ownership of the web site New Website Benefits 6
New Website Content & Navigation Demonstration 8
What is a Content Management System? • “Raw” content is authored by content owners directly, via a web form • One copy of content, published to multiple locations • Presentation or “look & feel” separate from content • Automated workflow governs the publishing process • Content is user controlled and managed • Content has review and expiry dates which trigger workflows 10
Content Management System Benefits • Better quality information • Reduced time to access information & resources • Improved usability & availability of relevant information • Reduced risk of providing inappropriate, irrelevant or illegal information (~500 sites) • Reduced duplication of content & resources • Improved governance & control of University’s web presence 11
The CMS Project What we have done: • Implemented the CMS for the main University website • Content to be managed by Publications Office, Marketing & Student Recruitment, Development & External Affairs, Student Services, Student Centre, Intranet team • Created generic content templates and workflows for use across the University • Created a support model for the CMS and the new corporate image 12
