Deutsch III Dealing With the Legacy of the Third Reich Many people were executed for their heinous roles during the 3rd Reich; however, some and their legacies were so valuable following WWII that, despite their complicity with the NAZIs, they went onto leadership positions in the "New Germany," in the United States or in Russia. Many were scientists and coveted "Prisoners of War." The most famous was most probably Werner Von Braun who went on to lead NASA during its golden years during the space race against the Soviet Union. Von Braun was the head of the NAZI's rocket weaponery program that designed and used slave labor to build the V1 and V2 rockets that were launched from France and set London aflame during WWII.
Deutsch III-Asignment Ferdinand Porsche, the founder of the Porsche Motor Company, worked with the NAZIs during WWII. Porsche's factories used slave labor, manufactured military vehicles for the NAZI war machine and his company designed the first Peoples' Car (Volkswagen) by order of Adolf Hitler. Porsche Motor Company is currently in the process of consolidating their North American Headquarters at the location of the former Ford factory adjacent to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The plan was to name the street into the Headquarters "Ferdinand Porsche Ave." This was declined by the City due to Ferdinand Porsche's ties to the Nazis. However, to still accommodate the Porsche Motor Company and recognize their investment in Atlanta, the City made an exception to a rule, allowing the street to be named after the company as "Porsche Street." Do you feel the denial of naming the street after Ferdinand Porsche due to his ties with the NAZI government was correct? Why or why not? What would have been your proposal towards a solution?
