  3. Harvested Cropland • Today, it accounts for 6 % • Cropland accounted for 18 % of total land area in 1950 Source: Census of Agriculture

  4. Pasture and Rangeland • Pasture accounted for 32 % of total land area in 1950 • Today, it accounts for 11 % Source: Census of Agriculture

  5. Wodland (Not Pastured) • Woodland on farms accounted for 18 % of total land area in 1950 • Today, it accounts for 7 % Source: Census of Agriculture

  6. Forest Acres • Forest Acres totaled 24.5 million in 1900; according to Hartsell and Brown now at about 23 million (2000) • Over three-fourths is non-industrial private; 16% private industrial; 5% public (state & federal) Source: U.S. Forest Service Survey
