Life Sciences in Montgomery County In the 1980s and the 1990s, Montgomery County government made strategic investments to attract and grow a life sciences cluster. • Established the highly successful Shady Grove Life Sciences Center, the first office park dedicated to life sciences, 30 years ago • Home of the Human Genome Project and more than 230 other biotech companies • Home to the most Nobel Laureates per capita • Home to more than 12,000 private sector biotechnology workers • Home to the region’s most successful incubator, the Shady Grove Innovation Center, along with four others: the Rockville Innovation Center, the Silver Spring Innovation Center, the Germantown Innovation Center, and the Wheaton Business Innovation Center

Life Sciences in Montgomery County In the 1980s and the 1990s, Montgomery County government made strategic investments to attract and grow a life sciences cluster. • Future home to three additional life-sciences parks—at White Oak, adjacent to the FDA; on the Germantown Campus of Montgomery College; and at the Belward Campus of JHU • Recently formed the Biosciences Task Force, led by David Mott (former CEO of MedImmune), to shape the County’s vision for the next 20-30 years • Recently selected as the home to the new Maryland Biotechnology Center • Recently selected as the home to the new Maryland Clean Energy Center
