Health Call 2012 • FP7-HEALTH-2012-Innovation-2 (3 topics, €108 million) • Opening: 20 Jul. 2011 • stage 1 proposals, deadline: 27 Sep. 2011 – 112 proposals received • evaluation: => 46 proposals invited to submit full proposal (~ 41%) • stage 2 proposals, deadline: 13 Dec. 2011=> 45 proposals submitted • 19 proposals short-listed for funding (~ 17 %)

Health Call 2012 • FP7-HEALTH-2012-Innovation-1 (34 topics, €546 million) • Opening: 20 Jul. 2011 • stage 1 proposals, deadline: 4 Oct. 2011 – 1173 proposals received • evaluation: => 322 proposals invited to submit full proposal (~27 %) • stage 2 proposals, deadline: 8 Feb. 2012=> 321 proposals submitted • final results: expected by end-April. • ~105 proposals could be funded (~ 9 %)

Initial Considerations Are you ready for participation? • Does it fit your strategy? • Collaborative projects mean working alongside international partners. • Does this suit your way of working? • Can you pull together or find a consortium? • Funding is highly competitive, prepare to be disappointed • Do you want to lead a project? (Time/resources) • Is the level of funding appropriate? • Can you wait up to one year for the money?

Inputs from participants • Advanced preparation before the call • Fit with your strategic priorities • Matching the topic is essential (external opinions) • Clear and realistic objectives, milestones and deliverables • Professional help for proposal preparation and/or consortium management • Management tools for reporting • Good working relationship with scientific officer in Brussels

  15. Three Evaluation Criteria • Proposals are evaluated against three criteria • Must meet the threshold (and more) for all three

Scientific and Technical Quality “ Scientific and/or technological excellence (relevant to the topic addressed by the call)” Evaluated against: Soundness of concept and quality of objectives Progress beyond state of the art Quality and effectiveness of the S/T methodology and associated work plan

Implementation “ Quality and efficiency of the implementation and the management ” Evaluated Against: Appropriateness of the management structure and procedures Quality and relevant experience of individual participants Quality of the consortium as a whole (complementarity, balance) Appropriateness of the allocation and justification of the resources to be committed (budget, staff, equipment)

  18. Impact “Potential impact through the development, dissemination and use of project results” Evaluated against: Contribution, at the European and/or international level, to the expected impacts listed in the work programme Appropriateness of measures for the dissemination and/or exploitation of project results, and management of IP

  19. Summary Highly competitive – must be well over the threshold to succeed Remember the European aspect Read the call carefully – seek 2nd and 3rd opinions on topic fit Write simply and clearly – don’t assume expert knowledge Make time to do a good job – avoid last minute submissions
