Diagnostic Tools?I don’t need those… Do I? • Highlight execution • Probe • Pause • Retaining wire values • Single-stepping: into, over, and out • Breakpoints • Run-time shortcut menus
The Probe …nono, this probe • Used for: • Viewing values as VI runs • Finding incorrect data • Identify certain active conditions (user-defined) • Where is it? • Tools palette • Right-click on any wire custom probe • Indicators are a type of probe
Retaining Wire Values • Shows most recent value in wire when enabled • Do not need probe on wire, will act as one • Must run VI at least once to get values • Can be used at any time after initial run • Will slow down VI slightly when enabled Pause: *gasp* pauses the VI!
Single Stepping • Three buttons: • Step into • Step over • Step out • Use these to scroll slowly through VI one step at a time • Highlighted glyph is currently being run
Breakpoints • Used for: • Pausing VI after breakpoint • Make easy to see values • Where is it? • Tools palette • Right-click on any wire set breakpoint
Run-Time Shortcut Menus • Right-click control on Front Panel or Block Diagram when running VI to see shortcut menu • Example default menu includes ‘reinitialize to default value’ and ‘cut/copy/paste data’ • Can also customize shortcut menus
