New Policies and Procedures • Assistant Professor I, II, III appointments delegated to Deans effective January 2008-procedures on AP website • New Procedure for Announcements-Letter will go from VPAP to faculty member 10 days after announcement goes to Chair via the Dean • New Off-Scale Language “off-scale will be maintained subject to market adjustments to the UC salary scale” • Adjunct Professor Appointments: Modified Teaching Requirement “Teaching requirements may be satisfied by evidence of significant contributions to the graduate or undergraduate instructional program. When participation in teaching is less than one course a year, or the equivalent in terms of formal guidance of graduate students, the appointee is no longer eligible to hold an appointment in the Adjunct Professor series.”

Faculty Salary Plan Tutorial 2 Parts: Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) and Market Adjustment The market adjustment to the base salary scale is a new feature designed to raise the faculty salary scales to market competitiveness and restore the integrity of the rank and step system of faculty advancement by reducing the need to use off-scale(O/S). A second and final market adjustment is planned for Oct 1 2008, in accordance with the UC Regents-approved 4 year faculty salary plan, and subject to budgetary conditions. COLAs are planned for all 4 years
Faculty Salary Plan Tutorial • ON SCALE FACULTY Faculty who were on scale received a 2.5% cost of living adjustment on their 10/1/06 salary and a market adjustment
Faculty Salary Plan Tutorial • Faculty with an O/S between steps received a 2.5% cost of living adjustment (COLA) to their 10/1/06 salary and a market adjustment which permanently shifted all of their O/S to the new base salary(see scales attached).They were placed on scale.
Faculty Salary Plan Tutorial • OFF SCALE (O/S) FACULTY Faculty with an O/S above the next step received a 2.5% cost of living adjustment to their 10/1/06 salary and a market adjustment which permanently shifted some of their O/S to the new base salary(see scales attached).They remain O/S.
Faculty Salary Tutorial • ABOVE SCALE (A/S) FACULTY Above scale faculty (Distinguished Professors) received a 2.5% COLA and some received an additional market adjustment if they fell beneath the minimum A/S salary, which is 7% above Professor IX.
