The idea of a Messiah is one that is found throughout the Old Testament - Hebrew Bible. • Messiah means “The anointed” (Messiah is a Hebrew word) • In Greek Messiah is translated “Christ” • For thousands of years the Jews looked forward to the coming of the Messiah.

How Jesus and Moses Are Alike • Leader, a prophet, a lawgiver, a deliverer, a teacher, a priest, a mediator, a human and one of God’s chosen people (a Jew), intermediary between God and man, speaking the words of God, performed many miracles, early years in Egypt. As infants, lives were threatened by evil kings, both were supernaturally protected from harm and more.
Foretelling of the Messiah’s Birth Place • He will be born in a small city called Bethlehem. Micah 5:2 - 722 B.C. Micah 5:22 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah,out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, hose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

He will be “numbered with the transgressors.” • Meaning that he would be counted in with criminals. • Isaiah 53:12 (written in 742 B.C.) • At the Cross he was with two criminals. • Isaiah 53:12Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors.For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Yet, He will be buried with the rich. • Meaning they planned His grave to be with the wicked, but he was buried in a rich man’s tomb. • Isaiah 53:9 742 B.C. • Jesus’ grave was from the rich man, Joseph of Arimathea. • Isaiah 53:9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth
After death he will see life.He will not decay. • Raised from the dead - resurrected. • Isaiah 53:11 742 B.C. • Psalm 16:10 1018 B.C.because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful (holy) one see decay. • 100s of Roman soldiers could not keep Jesus in the grave.
He will suffer for us. • “Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
