  1. Time for discipleship? Brand new research on discipleship in the UK today April 2014

  2. Time for discipleship? • Time to be thankful: • 98% see God at work in their lives • faith continues in the hard times – only 3% said their faith had suffered long-term following a trial. • Time to share our faith: • 68% came to faith before adulthood • only 26% feel they have been well-equipped to witness and share their faith.

  3. Time for discipleship? • Quality time with God: • 90% read the Bible at least several times a week • less than a third set aside a substantial period each day to pray • distraction and busyness – people relate to the biblical character of Martha • people are praying on the move and using Bible apps.

  4. Time for discipleship? Times are changing: • older Christians pray and read the Bible more • younger people are more likely to: • come to faith before the age of 12 and grow up in a Christian family • report that they often feel despair and anxiety • say they find having a spiritual mentor helpful.

  5. Time for discipleship? • The Church and discipleship: • 70% say festivals help them in their walk with God • 90% find church and small groups helpful • church leaders are a big influence • only 40% feel their church does well at discipling new Christians • people feel encouraged to use gifts within the church more than outside.

  6. Time to consider… • Individually: • How have my life experiences impacted my faith? • Do I set aside time to focus on God? • Do I have a mentor or someone I am accountable to, who I can talk about my faith honestly with? • How can I help disciple others? As a church: • Is our church intentionally discipling people, both new Christians and ‘older’ ones?  • How can discipleship be developed in our church? • Is prayer prioritised? • Are we equipping people to share their faith and be disciples in their everyday lives?

  7. Visitwww.eauk.org/snapshot to: - download the report and discussion questions • watch clips of Christian leaders reflecting on the findings • order paper copies • join the panel to have your say
